Tiffany Haddish Opens Up About Losing Her Job After Child Grooming Allegations and Lawsuit
The legal battle between Tiffany Haddish and two people who accused the comedian of child sexual abuse is apparently over, as the case has reportedly been dismissed by a judge. However, it looks like things aren’t really over for Haddish herself, as she claims to have lost all the work she had planned due to the allegations.
Although it is unclear what led to the dismissal of the claims against Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spearsand any settlement, if there was one, is almost certainly sealed off, the damage was apparently done at Haddish. TMZ posted a video of a photographer catching up with the actress at LAX and asking her opinion on the dismissed case, and she’s not as happy as you might think as she says she’s entirely out of work. Haddish says bluntly…
It’s certainly not uncommon for even allegations of wrongdoing to cause studios to want to distance themselves from various performers so as not to be associated with any issue. Will Smith‘s career has been on hold since her incident at the Oscars, with several of her projects having been put on hold. In this case, it’s less clear how directly the stage slap caused the film’s delays, but Haddish draws a direct line between the lawsuit and the lost work.
There were a few high profile projects that Haddish would have been hired for. Last year it was announced a biopic about Olympic legend Florence Griffith Joyner was under construction. However, this film was produced by Haddish’s own production company, so it seems unlikely that this job will be lost, although production may have been put on hold.
Earlier this year, it was also announced that a sequel to the very successful Girls trip was also planned, although that movie was clearly in its early stages, with no script yet, so it wasn’t a work to come, at least not in the short term.
Tiffany Haddish certainly won’t disappear completely as she had several projects she had already completed before facing trial. Chief among them is Disney’s new version of a Haunted house movie, where Haddish will play a psychic from New Orleans. This the movie was recently delayed and we must now ask ourselves whether this decision was made for production reasons or for other reasons.
With the lawsuit apparently over and Haddish not publicly admitting anything, it’s possible that this lack of work is a temporary situation that will resolve itself once some time passes and these allegations fall from memory. At this point, it seems only time will tell.
