Scarlet Nexus Director and Producer Interview Provides Potential Sequel Preview; Thematic Desires, Quality of Life

Inverse recently did an interview with Scarlet Nexus’ producer, Keita Iizuka, and director, Kenji Anabuki, to discuss the possibilities of a sequel and the facets he would like to develop. One of these facets that Iizuka wants to develop in the launch of a potential sequel is more quality of life features. Features like alternate font sizes and camera distance were provided in post-launch patches, but integrating them early in the future would be more ideal.
One of the main takeaways from this interview is how Anabuki wants the general theme of superpowers to be approached in ways that aren’t strictly gameplay related. Specifically, Anabuki said:
“If there is a sequel, I would personally want to use the ‘superpower’ theme in areas other than battles. The world and story settings could potentially be created to suit an even more mature audience; exploring themes like the dangers of having or using superpowers.

Scarlet Nexus takes place in the distant future, where a psionic hormone has been discovered in the human brain. It causes people to gain extra-sensory powers and thereby change the world. Humanity has entered a new era, but deranged mutants known as the Others have begun descending from the sky with a thirst for human brains.
These enemies are unaffected by deadly weapons, so humanity is forced to rely on those with abilities to save the world. Players embody Yuito Sumeragi or Kasane Randall to unravel the mysteries of a future Brain Punk caught between technological addiction and psychic abilities.
