“These same people were charged with attempted murder based on an investigation by the Inspector General’s Monitoring Unit last year.
“The deceased, Mr. Opara, was one of those under investigation in last year’s attempted murder case and was facing charges in Ogwashi-Uku as a result of the ‘investigation,’ he noted.
Prince Emordi said the Delta State CP declared some of the cultists wanted just months ago, adding that in May 2021, the suspects were believed to have been responsible for the death of a deputy police superintendent who was killed around Otulu.
He therefore urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and identify not only all those behind the attempted assassination of Ogwashi-Uku’s Obi, but also their backers.
The palace secretary also urged members of the Ogwashi-Uku community, who had vowed to respond to the attack on their ruler, to remain calm and allow the police to complete their investigation.
Meanwhile, while addressing thousands of young people and members of the Ogwashi-Uku community, who came to pay a solidarity visit to the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku at the start of the annual Inne festival , the palace secretary confirmed that a full report on the incident had been submitted to the Delta State government as well as the relevant security agencies.
He urged members of the community not to take justice but to help the police with their investigations so that the Otulu Ogwashi-Uku issue can be dealt with comprehensively.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku not to allow Otulu Ogwashi-Uku to become a hideout and a lair for criminals who have financed their activities by illegally selling Ogwashi-Uku communal land.
The palace secretary also revealed that the land speculator, who had shown an interest in the Otulu lands, had been identified and urged the speculator to stop distributing money to the criminals who attacked the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku.
The palace secretary then reminded land buyers in the kingdom of Ogwashi-Uku that all land in Ogwashi-Uku was vested in the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, who is the overlord, trustee and guardian of all the communal lands of Ogwashi-Uku.
