Australian Open 2022 – Paula Badosa reaches the third round for the first time after passing Martina Trevisan

Paula Badosa enters the third round of the Australian Open after earning a comfortable 6-0 6-3 win over Martina Trevisan at Rod Laver Arena.
Badosa is yet to drop a set at this year’s Australian Open and the 24-year-old had no trouble clearing away Trevisan in 73 minutes to reach the third round for the first time in her career.
The world number 6 is thrilled to be in the third round and says beating world number one Ash Barty at the Charleston Open in April last year was a turning point in her recovery.

“I’m very happy,” Badosa said afterwards.
“Martina is a fighter, she has a great story and I really respect players like her. I knew she would fight until the end so I had to stay every point and I’m really happy to have won victory.
“I think I worked very hard last year and there was a key moment. I’m sorry for the name I’m going to say now, but beating Ash Barty, the best player in the world, was incredible for me.
“After that moment I thought anything was possible and I could beat any player.”

Trevisan, who knocked out Nao Hibino in straight sets in the first round in her third main draw appearance, committed seven unforced errors in the first three games and the Spaniard made a double break in 17 minutes.
Trevisan struggled on her first serve and Badosa earned her third break in the first set as the Italian double faulted. Badosa sealed the bagel on his serve when Trevisan threw a wild forehand.
In the second set and it looked like Badosa would break the opener qualifier, but the Italian saved four break points.
Trevisan hung on until Badosa broke again at 2-2 and it didn’t take long for the No.8 seed to seal the win, earning the tie on serve. Italian.
