10 Best Special Attackers In Pokémon, Ranked

Special moves are one of the ways Pokémon can deal damage to each other. They can take the form of projectiles or long-range attacks, and they usually strike from a distance.
For a special move to be effective, a Pokemon simply needs to have a high special attack. These ten Pokemon have the highest Special Attack of all Pocket Monsters, dealing a lot of damage.
ten Ultra Necrozma – 167
Ultra Necrozma is known to many as every Nuzlocker’s worst nightmare, having terminated every Nuzlocke with its sheer power. The reason for the Prism Pokémon’s dominance lies in its special attack, having a base stat of 167.
Ultra Necrozma is the only Pokemon capable of using Photon Geyser (which can also be a physical attack, depending on the highest attack stat), and with its Dragon-type it gets an extra kick for Dragon Pulse. Some Ultra Necrozma cover options include Solar Beam, Heat Wave, and Dark Pulse.
9 Mega Gengar – 170
Gengar is already a pretty strong (and cool) Ghost-type Pokémon, and a Mega Evolution turns this Ghost Pokémon into a force to be reckoned with. Along with a showy 170 Special Attack stat, Mega Gengar also sees a much-needed boost to both of his defenses.
With a massive move pool, Mega Gengar can easily knock out moves like Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, Thunderbolt, Focus Blast and many more. The fact that it can also outrun nearly any Pokemon that opposes it is the proverbial icing on the cake.
8 White Kyurem – 170
While Black Kyurem is more of a physical attacker, White Kyurem mainly focuses on the special attack side. His unique typing gives him access to great STAB moves, such as Ice Beam and Draco Meteor. He even has access to Fusion Flare – Reshiram’s signature move.
Not only does Whtie Kyurem inherit Reshiram’s signature move, but he also gains his ability, Turboblaze. This allows White Kyurem to ignore certain Pokemon abilities, making it a perfectly viable Pokemon in most situations.
seven Unbound Hoopa – 170
Hoopa Unbound is Hoopa’s alternate form, which Hoopa can transform using a Jail Bottle. And while Hoopa Unbound has a physical attack of 160, its special attack is only ten points higher.
Hoopa Unbound has a Dark/Psychic type, which makes moves such as Dark Pulse and Psychic much more powerful. Add a villainous plot, and Hoopa Unbound can easily destroy the opposition and sweep away even the most perfectly assembled team of its own volition. A Hyperspace Fury wouldn’t even be necessary.
6 Xurkitree – 173
Xurkitree sports the highest Special Attack among the Ultra Beasts, with a searing base stat of 173. A Beast Boost easily increases its Special Attack after a Pokémon is KO’d, but a single use of a Tail Glow can really raise Xurkitree’s already high special attacks to levels not meant to be achieved.
In addition to Thunderbolt, Xurkitree can knock out other moves such as Signal Beam, Energy Ball, and Dazzling Beam. While all of these moves are quite modest, Xurkitree’s special attack can make them extremely powerful beyond words.
5 Mega Alakazam – 175
Much like Gengar, Alazakam is a special attacker who becomes more of a beast when mega evolving. He may still be fragile on the physical defense side, but he can still outrun anyone with his high speed.
Mega Alakazam is a speedster that offers plenty of cover. His access to Shadow Ball can control Ghost-type Pokémon, while moves like Focus Blast, Signal Beam, and Dazzling Beam can take care of Dark-type Pokémon. Too bad Mega Alakazam has nothing for Bug-types, though.
4 Primordial Kyogre – 180
Primal Kyogre is somewhat of a mixed attacker, but his special attack is his highest stat. And its ability, Primordial Sea, is an upgraded version of Rain Dance, making any Fire-type moves unnecessary.
As a Water-type Pokémon, Primal Kyogre can perform a wide variety of Water-type moves. His signature move, Origin Pulse, is one of the strongest moves in his arsenal. Water Sprout, Hydro Pump, and Surf are all fantastic choices. If a Grass-type Pokémon is giving Primal Kyogre trouble, an Ice Beam can put them out of their misery.
3 Mega Rayquaza – 180
Mega Rayquaza is an extremely balanced Pokemon with 180 Physical AND Special Attack. He can knock out just about anyone with a Dragon Pulse, though a stat drop from the very powerful Draco Meteor would probably bite him pretty hard in the back.
Unfortunately, Mega Rayquaza doesn’t offer much when it comes to Flying-type moves. It only knows one Flying-type special move, in Air Slash, and while it has a 30% chance to flinch opponents, it only has a base power of 75. However, Mega Rayquaza knows other moves such as Fire Blast, Blizzard and Hyper Voice.
2 Deoxys (Attack Form) – 180
Honestly, Attack Forme Deoxys won’t last that long on the battlefield with its atrocious defenses, but that doesn’t matter because this DNA Pokemon can hit hard. His Psycho Boost has a massive base power of 140, though it reduces Deoxys’ Special Attack by two levels.
When not completely obliterating Pokémon with Psycho Boost, Attack Forme Deoxys can cast other moves, like Flash Cannon, Grass Knot, or even Mirror Coat. Anyone looking to have this form of Deoxys on their team had better make sure this Pokemon can get a few good licks before it goes down.
1 Mega Mewtwo Y – 194
Regular Mewtwo already has a ridiculously high special attack, which is second only to Xurkitree among all base form Pokemon. So what does Mewtwonite Y do? Mega evolves the genetic Pokemon and raises its special attack to levels that may not have been meant to be achieved.
Mega Mewtwo Y has the highest Special Attack of any Pokemon, with a monstrous base stat of 194. Its signature move Psystrike can deal massive damage, especially against those with low Physical Defense. Ice Beam, Fire Blast, and Thunderbolt are just a few of Mega Mewtwo Y’s cover options.
